University College’s School of Hospitality, Tourism & Culinary Arts (SHTCA)
was founded in 1987, and with over 24 years of history, the school is the only
Hospitality, Tourism & Culinary Arts School in Malaysia that offers a
complete Swiss experience through its collaboration with IMI University Centre
from Lucerne, Switzerland. Its
partnership with the IMI University Centre (IMI) enables the school to offer
IMI programmes in Malaysia, without students having to go abroad. One of the
unique features of the KDU–IMI programmes is the exposure to industry placement
in reputable local or international hotels and restaurants where practical
skills are enhanced in real-life situations.
KDU has remains in close rapport with its industrial partners, students
and staff throughout the years and also under constant review with leading industry
members who form its advisory board, ensuring compliance with the best

In 2011, the SHTCA became a proud associate member of The International
Centre of Excellence in Tourism and Hospitality Education (THE-ICE), and is the
first school in Malaysia to attain such standing. As an independent, not-for-profit organisation, THE-ICE
serves to recognise, develop and promote excellence in tourism, hotel and event
education, and membership includes world-leading universities, private hotels
and vocational colleges.
The SHTCA was also awarded the WACS Recognition for Quality Culinary Education by
the World Association of Chefs Societies. This award has marked another
milestone of the illustrious school, which have not only been consistently
delivering quality culinary education but have also been regularly bringing
home medals after stand-offs with industry bigwigs in the competitive culinary
scene through its culinary competition team, Independent. The team is no stranger in the competitive
culinary scene and have never failed to deliver, be it in the local or
international competition arena.
SHTCA also
launched its first ever culinary book in 2010, RE-DEFINITION – Molecular Cuisine: Traditional Recipes through a Modern
Kaleidoscope. The book, authored by the school’s Chef Lecturer Darren Teoh , pays tribute to our local cuisine and
produce, and is the FIRST book in Malaysia that applies molecular cooking
techniques to our Malaysian recipes.
Study in this industry can be extremely fun and you get to have different learning experience in both practical and academic as the SHTCA take enormous
pride in its recognitions and achievements, and believe that challenges
